osCommerce vs. Magento comparison in future

Hi there,

I know I’ve been kind of quiet; been busy working a lot with osCommerce. It really makes me want to learn Magento, which at least looks a lot nicer and easier to customize.

So I’m going to do up a “coder’s comparison” for them in the near future, once I learn enough Magento.

Look forward to it!

Kevin

That is a great idea, I am very eager to read it, since even though I have been developing for over 14 years, I have transitioned into more of a strategist in directorial capacity in the past 5 – 7 years.

Likewise, I have written up my high-level marketing and logistical review on “Migrating to Magento against Critical Reviews” that I believe lacks technical detail and can be a good companion for an article with the same.

Overall. however I believe the business aspect of the decision is extremely easy due to the features, commercial enterprise open-source model and the scalability of the application with widely available development resources.

Hi there – thanks for the reply and encouragement. I still haven’t gotten a chance to check out Magento, but when I do properly, I’ll be sure to write up the comparison. Like you say, I think the choice is somewhat obvious, but I’m also interested for myself in just how broad the differences are. I’ll be in a good position to compare, since I have a lot of material *shudders* for osCommerce. :)

It’s certainly set the bar high for difficulty to customize in more than in a basic way. Other options will have a difficult time being more difficult there…that’s for sure.
