This page is actively being updated. This message being here means that more is coming! So stay tuned.
Hi! Glad you’re checking out my past work. That’s what this page is for; it outlines the projects I’ve worked on and puts my experience into real-life context. Many experiences have contributed to my expertise today.
If you want to know more about any particular project, please contact me.
Drupal Projects
My main experience with Drupal is with a non-profit organization called The Gnostic Movement. This is my way of helping out a community non-profit in the San Francisco Bay Area, and it provides frequent and broad experience in Drupal development.
Projects worked on:
Gnosticweb.com (The Gnostic Movement)
Major work included implementing the redesign of the home page, creating newsletter templates and training others to edit, maintain, and improve them, creating internal training videos for Drupal and the site, and helping out with back-end server administration and support as a whole. I also customized and developed several Drupal modules.
GnosticAwakenings.com (The Gnostic Movement)
Helping out with this voluntary Drupal project is ongoing; one of the latest enhancements has been a filter to pull statistics from an external database and expose this information to less technical content editors to use in the site’s content. There have also been enhancements to the donations thermometer module that is in use (built in-house), to the general look and feel of the site, CSS tweaks, and a module to improve up on the default Drupal block for Active Forum Topics.
A couple migration-related modules have also been developed behind the scenes for future development.
More and more work keeps coming, so I think the organizers are happy with the work being done
WordPress Projects
Self-hosted WordPress is a platform I began to dive into during early 2009. I had already helped a couple friends with customizing their blogs. WordPress has what I would call “legendary usability.” There are very few options and features that are not intuitive or well-documented. That said, WordPress is great as a blogging platform. I still use Drupal when I want a bit more flexibility.
Blang: The Language Blog (blangblog.com)
Blang: The Language Blog is my language blog. I write haikus and tips to have fun while studying languages. It’s built on WordPress and uses a good amount of plugins. It’s also based on the Atahualpa theme – one of my favorites. While I’m still working on it, that in itself is an example of how easy it is to get up and running with WordPress.
(And for the curious, this site also runs WordPress, and I’m still working on it
)
I’ll update this section progressively with my findings and insights about WordPress.
osCommerce Projects
osCommerce is my latest CMS. It’s easy to understand and customize to meet specific needs. I’ve found it best for small projects and simple stores.
Projects worked on:
Project X (in progress…)
Right now, I’ve got a big osCommerce project in the works for a company in the furniture sector. I can’t say much about it yet, but I’ve put major work into the stock osCommerce code as a whole. Except for some pages, it’s not even recognizable any longer as being built on osCommerce (which is a good thing in this case
).
I look forward to sharing more details about this exciting project when it’s done.
PHP Projects
I’ve also done a number of custom PHP projects. While these can take longer to turn around, past projects have provided great experience.
GreenSage.com Expert Management System (Senior Project)
This is one of the most significant PHP projects I’ve done. The client was a local green business owner needing improvements to her site.
Although it was my senior project, it required a great deal of planning and work. A partner and I went through the full project cycle and delivered something about which the client raved. We built a formidable back-end management interface for the front-end data. This also required improving the structure of the Web site, in some cases.
This project was completed over two years ago, and, as you can see from browsing to the site, it is still being used. This is a good sign when it comes to senior projects.
Other PHP Work
I’ve had various other experiences using PHP throughout the years; I worked a lot on the old mysticweb.org and the news categorizing system, written in PHP, on gnosticjudas.com.
Joomla Projects
I don’t specialize in Joomla!, but I can get around.
Projects worked on:
BoostYourStartup.com (Boost Your Startup)
I’ve been doing some updates for BoostYourStartup.com. Some work is still in progress, but work to date has been diverse, providing experience in tweaking templates, modifying Joomla! extensions, and publishing Joomla! content. It’s a bilingual Web site, as well.
Like what you see? Your site could be next to get the magic touch. Send me your dream.
